Every1online Update: Our First Install!
Our First Install
Meta Mesh is incredibly excited to announce our first home connection to the Every1online network! This home is the first of 25 to be connected in Coraopolis. Not only do we have our first end-user, but we also have our first institutional customer: Cornell School District has committed to sponsoring a year of monthly service costs for 25 area homes.
We are extremely proud to have proved the technical feasibility of our Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP) model, as well as our unique nonprofit business approach to providing Internet service.
With their consent, we want to share Brigid’s story and how this new connection will empower her family. During the pandemic they struggled because their Internet was slow and unreliable. Even as the world slowly returned to normal, Brigid wanted her kids to have reliable Internet access to continue to learn and play comfortably at home.
“We’re so excited to be a part of this. This service could do so much for our community. Ours is a small town where most of us know each other from way back, so we all look out for each other. I’m excited to see how this resource can make a difference in Coraopolis.”
This installation marks a significant milestone for our organization, and we wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of our partners for the time, care, and expertise they have provided to our organization.
We also could not have done this without the volunteers on our Technical Advisory Board, and their incredible skill set and willingness to research and undertake challenging and ambitious projects. Without our partners, we would have never realized the innovative solutions we used to deploy this network.
Further, our newly expanded Board of Directors has truly jump started the organization with their experience and knowledge, and they are providing us with more opportunities to expand our footprint.
We would also like to personally thank Maggie Hannan and Ashley Patton at Carnegie Mellon University for their kind and dedicated support over the course of this pilot project. Last, but never least, Kris Hupp of Cornell School District has championed this project since its inception, and has played a key role in turning this idea into reality. We couldn’t have done it without them.
We look forward to continuing to work together to grow and expand our mission as we become Pittsburgh’s equitable last-mile solution.
