2017: Meta Mesh's Year of Progress
August saw lots of installations and re-jiggering of metrics for more stable snapshots of PittMesh usage.
The City-wide PittMesh Backhaul Network:
In just one short month, the PittMesh Backhaul plans have gone from this:
While nothing is final and obviously no hardware has been installed, we have SUCCEEDED in obtaining permission from interested parties to install equipment on secure, private locations which can be used to build a wireless network that can be used to deliver Internet access, create a local city-wide network, and even perhaps serve as an emergency-response mechanism. We're working with entities behind the scenes to see how feasible this can be. We hope to tell you more about this in the future.
This is REALLY exciting news! And we're hoping to get much of this South Side portion of the network by the end of the year. If you want to see this come to fruition, donate to us and tell us that you want your dollars to go toward the PittMesh Backhaul network at www.metamesh.org!
Meta Mesh on Vacation:
Meta Mesh took a vacation this month yet STILL got a bunch of stuff done. Adam went to the Outer Banks, Jake went out to California, and Justin went to Italy- for 2 weeks!
Here is a photo of "Alternate Reality Adam" at the beach, otherwise known as Brian, Adam's brother.
We hope you had a good vacation, too, if you went on one!
Meta Mesh to Provide Public WiFi at Hilltopolis:
Like music? Enjoy being outdoors? LOVE public WiFi? Well come on out SEPTEMBER 22nd and watch the Cool Kids and PK Delay & Pet Zebra put on a sweet show with a sweeter view of the 'Burgh in the background.
Hilltopolis is an outdoor festival highlighting social innovation through music and activism. National acts join with breakout local artists in an unforgettable setting to benefit Pittsburgh nonprofits.
Buy your tickets at www.hiltopolis.co
Meta Mesh Wireless Communities will be providing free public WiFi for the event using our KINBER fiber bandwidth and we couldn't be happier about it. We will be showing off how good mesh networking technology can be at the event while providing the bandwidth for a livestream of the performances! You know how we say we're working on things but we can't talk about them sometimes? Well this was one of them- and we're telling you now!
We added a few new sites this month:
Allentown - Unique Home
Squirrel Hill - Private Residence
Braddock - Superior Motors
and Beechview - Sorgatron Media
We also wanted to let you know that we have successfully transitioned our server to keep 365 days worth of usage data. Below is a snapshot of usage at the time of writing. If you'd like to check out the usage yourself, go to grafana.metamesh.org and login with the username of grafanaviewer and the password of grafanaviewer.
Please recall last month's notification of touching up our site numbers. we purged a few now-defunct sites, so this is why you will see a drop in the numbers in the first graph.
How you can help Meta Mesh this month:
Donate some cash to us, ok? We're going to be embarking on a serious PittMesh Backhaul investment and we'd love to get some cash set aside for investing in infrastructure!
Head on over to www.metamesh.org and make your tax-deductible donation.
You can also send us Bitcoin at our address:
Thank you from all of us at Meta Mesh! We'll see you next month!
Please let us know if you have donated something and let us know the cost so that we can give you a tax deduction form for you!
